Understanding the algebraic expressions, Terms and variable

Definition:
Algebraic expression is a statement consisting meaningful combinations of coefficients and variables.

Suppose Mr. Gunawan has six cows and ten goats. He is going to sell all of them. If one cow and one goat are priced x rupiah and y rupiah respectively, how much money will Mr. Gunawan receive?
Mr. Gunawan will receive 6x + 10y rupiahs.
The form of 6x + 10y from the above illustration is an algebraic expression in which:
  • 6x and 10y are called terms
  • x and y are variables
  • 6 is the coefficient of 6x, and
  • 10 is the coefficient of 10y
