In a dig clearly aimed at Apple, executive chairman over at Google Eric Schmidt has in a recent speech at Google’s Mobile Revolution conference said that Google’s success with Android is profound, and that “competitors are responding with lawsuits as they cannot respond through innovations” before moving on to questions, where an eager reporter asked how Google is coping with HTC’s Apple lawsuit situation. The response Eric Schidt gave was strong, and he said that ”we will make sure they [HTC] don’t lose”
Google’s operating system, Android, has grown rapidly since it launched on the T-mobile G1 with thanks to numerous smartphone manufacturers adopting it on their handsets. Eric’s comments are regarding this growth, and directing clear behind the scenes frustration, what Schmidt has essentially said is that Apple can’t hack losing out.
In previous news, HTC’s general counsel Grace Lei said on the lawsuit that ”HTC is disappointed at Apple’s constant attempts at litigations instead of competing fairly in the market,” and Lei’s prior comments appear to be heavily backed by Google.
As of today the lawsuit between HTC and Apple still stands after HTC was found guilty by the ITC of infringing on 2 of Apple’s patents, and this latest slamming from Google answers the very question which I asked back in March regarding Google’s stance on the matter, so thanks Eric.
