Following on from our previous coverage regarding the Macbook Air replacing the white Macbook, Apple has finally spilled the beans on its 2011 Macbook Air model and it has made quite the leap forward indeed packing brand new Sandy Bridge processors, Thunderbolt ports, backlit keyboards and OS X Lion. The brand new base model Macbook Air starts at £849 price wise and packs 64GB of solid-state storage, 2GB RAM and a perky sounding 1.6GHz Core i5 processor to keep photoshop ticking along nicely. As expected prices start to fluctuate when you go for more screen real estate though, and the top spec 13-inch Macbook Air starts at a not so cool sounding £1,349 and features a 256GB SSD and Core i7 processor (which isn’t too bad considering the specs you are getting).
One of the most useful new features to hit the 2011 Macbook Air is a backlit keyboard, which will allow users to type comfortably even in low-light conditions and it works via a built-in sensor which intelligently detects changes in light around you and adjusts the keyboard accordingly.
Overall we’d say Apple has done good with these updates and has finally brought their Macbook Air line in to the same spectrum as their Pro range. For most people however i’m going to guess that it’s going to be a real touch choice choosing between the two products, because the portability of an Air is very tempting indeed at these specifications.
