Oh my word we’re all at the mercy of a blogger, after British blogger James Breckenridge based in Kent accidentally discovered how to remove any website from Google’s search registry with almost immediate effect using simple URL modifications. The hick up (or genius hick up) started when James thought he would try out Google’s Webmaster Tools and had built himself a Google Chrome extension to remove his unwanted URLs more quickly than using Google’s method, however he unwillingly removed a website he had no correlation with.
Breckenridge quickly alerted Google to the problem and posted what had happened on his blog, and even posted a how to on the subject, although he states he only did this to help Google’s investigation.
Yesterday I was busy removing thousands of URL’s from within Googles Webmaster Tools, it was pretty time consuming as there were so many, there had to be an easier way? I settled on quickly making myself a chrome extension that adds a link next to a result in a Google search, deep linked into webmaster tools. With that installed I was busy clicking away removing the URL’s in record time.
“I made a little mistake and accidentally removed a URL of a website I have no relation to,’ he said. “I was stunned it could be that easy. Surely there was no way Google would actually remove the page, right?” James said on his blog.
Google is said to have fixed the problem now. Hit up the source link below to go to the how to, and bow down to your master.
